Transportation, Housing, & Employment Committee

The Tranportation, Housing, & Employment Committee addresses activities in the State Plan in service of the following goal:

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities will have increased access to, and opportunities for, the education, training, and support services that they need to succeed in the labor market.

  1. Educating public and private agencies on Customized Employment, and creating activities to support students and young adults with disabilities with getting a job and earning competitive wages

  2. Initiating upcoming legislations to change the procurement laws in order to abolish the capability of paying an individual sub-minimum wage based on the sole fact they have a disability.

  3. Continuing to support the Project SEARCH initiative by holding the licenses so the Project can continue in the State of Hawaii.

  4. Facilitating with sister agencies; Center on Disability Studies and Hawaii Disability Rights Center, a quarterly transition meeting with over 130 professionals from Department of Human Services, Department of Health, and Department of Education, breaking down silos and promoting collaborating among each other.
