Transportation, Housing, & Employment Committee
The Tranportation, Housing, & Employment Committee addresses activities in the State Plan to address the goal that: Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have increased access to and opportunities for the education, training, and support services that they need to succeed in the labor market.
Purpose
-
Educating public and private agencies on Customized Employment, and creating activities to support students and young adults with disabilities with getting a job and earning competitive wages

Initiating upcoming legislations to change the procurement laws in order to abolish the capability of paying an individual sub-minimum wage based on the sole fact they have a disability.

Continuing to support the Project SEARCH initiative by holding the licenses so the Project can continue in the State of Hawaii.

Facilitating with sister agencies; Center on Disability Studies and Hawaii Disability Rights Center, a quarterly transition meeting with over 130 professionals from Department of Human Services, Department of Health, and Department of Education, breaking down silos and promoting collaborating among each other.

Educating the Department of Health on the importance of becoming the model employer of employees with disabilities. Will begin staff development trainings on hiring individuals with disabilities as state workers.
